Android apps for GSM fieldwork

Field tools,
built by an RF engineer.

I build these three apps around problems I've run into on the field: measuring a signal, aiming an antenna, anticipating coverage. Just a smartphone, no extra measurement gear.

The apps

Each one answers a specific need in the field: measuring a signal on the move, checking an antenna's orientation, or estimating coverage before heading out.

Mobile measurement

GSM Drive Test

Logs signal power, quality and the serving cell while on the move, geolocates every reading, and lets you export it for later analysis.

Antenna aiming

GSM Azimut Checker

Compares, right there on site, an antenna's real azimuth against the value planned in the design file, using the phone's compass and GPS.

Network simulation

GSM Coverage Planner

Estimates a site's coverage from its real parameters (height, azimuth, tilt, power) to spot shadow zones before the intervention.
