What is GSM Field Suite?

GSM Field Suite is a web Coverage Planner that turns a site's radio parameters into a client-ready PDF coverage report, plus three free Android apps for GSM/RF field engineers: Network Drive Test for mobile signal logging, Antenna Azimuth Checker for antenna orientation verification, and Cell Coverage Planner for on-site coverage simulation.

Do these apps replace TEMS or other drive test tools?

Not for full-scale network audits, but for quick field checks, Network Drive Test replaces the need to carry a laptop and TEMS-class hardware for basic signal power, quality and serving cell logging.

Do I need any special equipment?

No. All three apps run on a standard Android phone using its built-in cellular radio, compass and GPS. No external dongles, no rooted device.

Which Android versions and frequency bands are supported?

Android 5.0 and above. Signal readings cover the 850–1900 MHz GSM bands with an accuracy of roughly ±2 dB.

Do the apps work without an internet connection?

Yes. Signal logging, azimuth checking and coverage estimation all work offline. An internet connection is only needed to download the app or export results afterward.

Are the apps free?

The three Android apps are free, with no subscription. The web Coverage Planner has a free plan (5 calculations per month) and a Pro plan at €15/month that unlocks PDF and KML report export. For custom adaptations or licensing for a team, contact us directly.

About the Developer

I've worked GSM networks for over 10 years, drive tests, antenna commissioning, coverage planning, the kind of fieldwork where you're standing under a mast with a laptop and a signal meter you didn't choose. These three apps replace gear I used to carry, or workflows I used to fake with a spreadsheet on site.

Each one exists because of one specific moment on the job:

  • Network Drive Test: I got tired of TEMS-class tools that need a laptop in the trunk. This runs on the phone in my pocket.
  • Antenna Azimuth Checker: I stopped trusting "the antenna looks about right" and started checking it against the design file, on the mast, with the phone I already had.
  • Cell Coverage Planner: Before rolling a truck two hours out to a site, I wanted a rough coverage estimate first. This gives me that in a minute.

All three are native Android, no external hardware, work offline where it matters, and I still use them myself.
