Prepare a coverage report a client can review

A coverage report is more useful when it states what was modelled, what was observed and what still needs checking.

Start with the question the report must answer

Before opening a planning tool, agree on the site, the service area and what “coverage” means for this request. It may be an early feasibility estimate, a design review or a comparison with measurements collected after installation. These are different jobs, and a report becomes confusing when it presents one as another.

Keep the request in plain language. A client usually needs to know where the estimate applies, which inputs shaped it and what should happen next if the field result does not match the map.

Record the assumptions beside the map

A coloured footprint without its inputs is hard to review. Include the site coordinates, antenna height, azimuth, tilt, transmit power, frequency band and propagation model used. If terrain, clutter or a design value came from another source, name that source in the project notes.

Make the output easy to read

  1. Place the site and the area of interest on the map.
  2. Show the coverage legend and state what the colours represent.
  3. List the antenna and radio assumptions near the map.
  4. Write one short note on the model’s limits for the local environment.
  5. State whether any points were checked in the field, and how.

This gives the reader a way to ask a useful question rather than arguing over an unexplained edge on the map.

Use field work to validate, not decorate

If the decision depends on a boundary or a difficult area, take a repeatable route and keep the date, device and serving-cell context with the result. Hand over the next action
